Snorkels can leak for several reasons, with installation errors being the most common. Even a careful do-it-yourself installation may work at first but fail over time if pipes aren’t cut to the correct length or joints aren’t aligned perfectly.
Another frequent cause of failure is heat. When a snorkel is installed too close to a heat source, the material can harden, become brittle, and eventually crack, letting water and mud in. Cheaper kits often lack heat-resistant materials, but High Lifter designs its snorkels to avoid these problem areas. While this requires more time and materials, it greatly extends the life of both the snorkel and your UTV.
A snorkel kit’s main purpose is to deliver clean, dry air to critical components such as the engine, clutches, differentials, transmission, carburetor, and fuel tank. It’s important to note that a snorkel does not make your vehicle fully waterproof or allow it to exceed the manufacturer’s maximum water depth. Instead, it provides an added layer of protection if you accidentally encounter water deeper than your OEM air intakes can handle.
