Additionally, aluminum and steel have "memory", which means if you hit a rock and the skid plate dents, good luck getting it back to flat. UHMW absorbs impact rather than catching it. And lastly, UMHW will glide over obstacles rather than stick to them because of the low friction coefficient, which helps deflect the force of impact.
