KWI Clutching PD HD Float
Important Note: This product requires you to send your Primary & Secondary to KWI for installation, as it needs to be performed in the shop.
The KWI PD HD Float is a clutch upgrade designed for 2025+ Can-Am Defender HD11 and base-model Can-Am X3 135hp (Turbo R) machines equipped with the BRP PDrive primary clutch.
These vehicles often suffer from factory clutch misalignment, clutch drag, and premature roller wear, which can cause hard shifting, belt drag at idle, excess heat, and frequent belt failures. The PD HD Float fixes these issues by machining the secondary clutch to “float,” allowing it to self-align with the primary for smoother engagement, better belt tracking, and reduced heat. The system also includes trued and resurfaced clutch sheaves, a PD Update to prevent the primary clutch from sticking, and new OEM BRP primary rollers to improve reliability and performance. Every clutch is fully inspected before work begins, and KWI will contact you if any worn or damaged parts are found.
Several package options are available depending on your riding needs. The PD HD Float includes the floating secondary modification, resurfaced sheaves, the PD update, OEM rollers, and KWI’s secondary roller update with a lifetime wear warranty. The PD HD + Float adds the Defcom 7 Base Clutch Kit, which provides smoother engagement, adjustable weights, and better backshifting for stock or lightly modified machines. The PD HD Pro Float includes everything in the + package along with the Defcom 7 Pro Kit, featuring a DR3 Groovix Helix and Black/Green secondary spring for improved belt grip and cooling under heavy loads.
The PD HD Cruiser Float includes the AO-P1 Cruiser Clutch Kit, designed for lower cruising RPMs, better drivability, and efficiency on Defender HD11 models used for trails or work. The PD HD Cruiser Pro Float adds a Groovix Helix upgrade for better cooling, belt control, and backshifting during demanding use.
All PDrive Float packages include OEM BRP primary rollers, which are wear items and should be inspected after every ride. If you notice side-to-side play or visible wear, they should be replaced immediately to prevent idle clutch drag and performance issues. Compatible machines include 2025+ Can-Am Defender HD11 models with PDrive and the Can-Am X3 135hp base model (Turbo R, 64").
