There are a number of RZR owners who have installed the popular 2" and larger lift kits on their RZR and are now encountering rear CV bind. This CV bind will rapidly accelerate CV joint wear and frequently cause CV joint breakage. Due to production tolerances, this does not occur with all lift kits on all RZR's, so we recommend that each individual vehicle be checked to verify whether your RZR has this problem.

Thunderhawk Performance is selling this rear-only lift kit so that customers can replace their existing rear lift kits which are commonly causing rear CV bind. Replacing your current rear lift kit with Thunderhawk's rear lift will eliminate your CV bind problem. If you do have CV bind, you should correct it immediately, as even occasional CV bind will cause CV joint failure.

Many people think that the RZR's suspension is only unloaded, and susceptible to CV bind, when jumping. This is not true, as the suspension on the RZR frequently unloads and hits full droop even on fast-paced trail rides. When the RZR crests a small hill or bump at speed, the suspension unloads. This also occurs over rough terrain where the tires drop into holes or over sharp-edge bumps. If you have a CV bind problem, riding under these conditions actually causes a great deal of wear and damage to the CV joints, since the RZR is typically under full-power when this momentary unloading and CV bind occurs.

"Well, OK. How do I tell if my current lift kit has CV bind?". If you had to pry on the shock during the installation of your current lift kit, you probably have a CV bind problem. The shock bolt should slide in by hand when installing your shock, without any force or prying. Here's how to test in just a few minutes:
1.) Jack up rear of RZR
2.) With rear tires hanging, turn rear tire by hand
3.) If you feel any binding, resistance or a bumping feeling every ½ turn, you have CV bind
4.) The tire should turn freely without any restriction or notchy feeling.

The Thunderhawk RZR rear lift kit re-positions the upper shock mount to revise the rear suspension geometry. This alters the wheel-to-spring motion ratio, thereby raising the ride height of the RZR and changing the effective wheel rate of the spring throughout its travel. By revising the suspension geometry, we can provide lift at ride height without dropping the wheel too far when the suspension is unloaded (full droop), which is where the CV bind problem causes it's damage. In addition, Thunderhawk Performance has designed our rear lift brackets to tie into the upper frame structure of the RZR to add strength and rigidity to the frame and shock mounts.

Thunderhawk Performance has applied years of suspension design and tuning to create a RZR rear lift kit that eliminates CV bind problems. Throughout the R&D of this kit, we tried many different design variations to produce 2" of actual lift. Without excessively stiff springs (or spring spacers), the RZR cannot have 2" of lift without CV bind. This is due the Polaris rear suspension and CV shaft design. There is no way around this.

The Thunderhawk RZR rear lift kit will produce approximately 1-1/8" to 1-7/8" of lift. This varies based on the spring pre-load setting that you choose. With the spring pre-load at its full-softest setting, the Thunderhawk lift provides approximately 1-1/8" lift. With the spring pre-load raised to full-stiff, you will have approximately 1-7/8" lift. If you have stiffer aftermarket springs or are using spring spacers to increase the pre-load, you will be able to achieve slightly greater lift numbers. With the stock springs, we prefer to set the rear spring pre-load to the middle setting, which produces approximately 1-1/2" lift. At this setting, your RZR will sit level with your current 2" lift on the front and you will not experience an excessively harsh ride.

The Thunderhawk Performance lift kit is precision CNC manufactured in the USA and features a durable zinc plated finish to resist rust in the harsh under-chassis environment. This is a complete, bolt-on kit and includes all necessary hardware and illustrated instructions. Requires no drilling or cutting. Typical installation time is about 60-90 minutes. Made in USA.
